NHI Bahamas has reached Milestone Enrollment
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
NHI Bahamas has reached Milestone Enrollment
Nassau, Bahamas – April 22nd, 2021 –
In March 2021, the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) achieved a milestone in its journey towards Universal Health Care by enrolling more than a quarter of the Bahamian population. This notable achievement precedes the 4th year anniversary of the Authority.
A record number of Bahamians have successfully enrolled in the NHI Bahamas program to gain access to a family doctor and laboratory testing at no cost at the point of service. The popularity of NHI Bahamas has continued to increase significantly even amidst the ongoing COVID19 pandemic. This growth in enrollment is indicative of the urgent need for access to affordable and quality healthcare. Maintaining a 95% patient satisfaction rate amongst beneficiaries, the program continues to expand with the introduction of Telehealth and the continued roll out of The Electronic Health Record (EHR) throughout the islands of The Bahamas.
“We have reached a great milestone of 100,000 plus Bahamians being registered in the NHI Program said Dr. Robin Roberts, Chairman of the NHIA Board. We also have almost 80% of Beneficiaries enrolled formally in our electronic health records. The number of beneficiaries now enrolled with NHI speaks volumes to our commitment of putting patients at the center of every decision we make. This was no small feat and speaks to where NHI is at and where we (NHI) are going”.
NHI Bahamas expects to see continued growth in enrollment as the program continues to evolve with the implementation of the Primary Care Transformation Initiative (PCTI). The Authority also continues to increase the number of family doctors enrolled in the program to support its new beneficiaries in New Providence and on the Family Islands.
NHIA’s CEO, Mrs. Christy Butler added, “This milestone underscores the importance of primary healthcare throughout the Bahamian community. The NHI Bahamas program offers the first layer of healthcare to its beneficiaries by incorporating a proactive approach that utilizes several preventive measures, management of chronic diseases, and promoting self-care and wellness through patient education.”
This achievement is important to the NHIA as it solidifies the critical role that the program plays in supporting the health and well-being of the Bahamian people in its journey towards Universal Health Care. The NHI Bahamas program maintains its commitment to providing quality healthcare to its beneficiaries regardless of their age, income, or health status.
